GR 13 privileged vantagepoint
Fiscal-Gradatiello-
Peña Canciás
Mount Canciás, as a vantage point overlooking Sobrarbe, rises at the western end of the Geopark and consists of
a convoluted wall that separates the mountains and forests in the north from the dry and austere southern mountain ranges.
Its particular geological configuration gives it a personality of its own, highlighted by the contrast of its slopes, its morphology and its strategic geographical position.
Climbing the Gradatiello Ridge and Mount Canciás is worthwhile in itself, but it also hides an excellent gift for hikers
because it is one of the best vantage points in the central Pyrenees. Its summit offers an uninterrupted view from Bisaurín to Turbón, including Telera, Tendeñera, Midi d'Ossau, Viñemal, the Mount Perdido massif, Posets, Aneto, Maladeta, Cotiella and Mount Montañesa, among many others.
Therefore, the long and tough route that leads to this privileged vantage point has as a reward, which is to unravel the
structure and origin of this mythical mountain of modest altitude but great personality and, above all, enjoy the
almost endless views.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
- Route: Fiscal-Mount Gradatiello-Mount Canciás
- Type of Route:Linear (return along the same route).
- Difficulty level:High. Much of the route leads along a well-marked and easy track. However, the
last 20 metres requires a short, easy climb that is not advisable for people suffering from a fear
of heights. Anchor points have been installed for those who wish to use them. The route is not
recommended if there is snow in the high areas or if the rocks are wet.
- Duration: 3.5 hours. (one way) The return trip requires another 2.5 hours.
- Length20 kilometres (round trip).
- Gradient: 1,200 metres up and the same down (round trip).
- Starting point : Once at Fiscal, we must not cross the bridge next to the fountain and the
church but turn right. A signpost indicates that this is the PR-HU 6 toward Fanlillo, which is the route we must follow. Further on, we shall come to a bridge to our left that we must not cross. Our road turns right and is indicated with white and yellow PR markings. It passes next to a weighbridge. About 150 metres further on, we shall see a sign for Lardiés (if the track makes a
very tight 180 degree turn, we have gone too far) and a narrow track that makes its way down on the left. We should follow this track for about 300 metres and then park next to a small tower with solar panels. The track continues for several kilometres but access is restricted.
- Comments The final part of the route features steep grassy slopes. Trekking poles would be helpful. There is also a short climb, as mentioned above. It takes one and a half hours more (round trip) to reach the
summit of Mount Canciás.
