GR 2 Aínsa: a town between two rivers.

This Geo-route leads through the old quarters of the town of Aínsa. Human activity usually hides geological features in cities; however, certain towns are actual classrooms where one can study geology.

They include areas that enable us to understand exactly why they were built where they are or how man was able to take advantage, knowingly or unkno-wingly, of geological processes that developed over thousands or millions of years. Aínsa is a good example of this, as it is strategically located at the confluence of two major rivers, the Ara and Cinca.

Even the elevated position of the old quarters, in an excellent position to overlook the surrounding area, has a geological component.

Therefore, a visit to the historic town of Aínsa will enable us to discover that this beautiful architectural ensemble also conceals an interesting geological heritage on which it depends.
