Route 12. La Fueva Plain: Tierrantona - Alueza - El Humo de Rañín - Solipueyo - Tierrantona

Karstic landforms in the Cotiella Massif are diverse both on its surface (karren, sinkholes…) as well as underground (caves, stalactites, stalagmites…) proving the flow of slightly acid water for a long period, causing the dissolution of calcium carbonate.

Though they are currently extinct, Nummulites were organisms occupying large areas of the shallow waters in the Eocene Basin. Different species were adapted to different marine environments.
The rocky lenticular structure is associated with the sedimentary filling of an alluvial channel. When a river or a torrent does not flow anymore, it is likely that its bed has been blocked by the sediments which it can no longer transport. .

Sedimentary rocks from the Upper Cretaceous to the Middle Eocene form a compact succession with alternating porous rocks (sandstones) and other impermeable ones (marlstones). Nevertheless, due to the low impermeability of the outcrop, only some traces of gas (methane and butane) were found during test drilling.
