R.1. Cinca Channel Lane

Route 1. Ronatiza Shelter - Cinca Channel Lane - Salinas

This geological biking route crosses the most ancient materials. We would have to go back 248 million years into the past in order to witness the formation of some of the outcrops of reddish sandstone that are found near the final point of interest along this route. Nevertheless, most of the route passes by rocks from the Upper Cretaceous, between 98,9 and 65 million years old, and also some rocks from the Lower-Middle Eocene, between 54,3 and 33,7 million years old, most of them being limestone..

The first point along the route shows us the rocks forming the Pineta Valley walls. Later, near Javierre, two information panels tell us how mankind has learnt from geological processes. The last information panel explains one of the most characteristic morphologies of mountain valleys. .
